Two Days, One Mission: A Recap of ICU Day & CU Kind 2025

In a world where tensions run high and uncertainty plagues our day-to-day lives, credit unions act as a bright spot through the chaos. Despite everything, we are a movement that has a mission worthy of celebrating.

That’s exactly what we’ve seen this month as we celebrated International Credit Union (ICU) Day on October 16, and it’s what we see as CU Kind celebrations continue in our credit union communities!

As we look over the 100+ years of our history, and over the past few weeks, our philosophy of pooling resources for the greater good – people helping people – has never wavered. In fact, it might be more apparent than ever. From the photos, stories and celebrations we’ve seen, it’s still very much the cornerstone of what we do today.

This year’s ICU Day theme of “Cooperation for a Prosperous World” certainly spoke to that, as does the grassroots nod to concern for community with CU Kind, which will carry on through the remainder of October.

These special days share the importance of our mission and elevate our visibility. In a time when it’s hard to see the light, credit unions shine brightly by working together and helping people.

Two days, one mission…and a movement that seeks to empower us all. Thank you for celebrating with us!

Did You Know: There Have Been Some Recent Updates!

Maybe it’s not a question of did you know, but more so did you notice some of the updates we’ve recently made to our website? If you haven’t, now is the time to check them out!

For a more streamlined and efficient experience, we’ve made changes to improve the look and navigation on our Upcoming Webinars, Webinar Recordings and Podcast pages.

Upcoming Webinars
Want to peruse our upcoming educational offerings? Find exactly what you’re looking for using the new filter options on our Upcoming Webinars page! We’ve updated this page so you can search by category of webinars – whether you’re looking for money management, payments, people development, risk management or technology – so you can locate the perfect virtual learning opportunity for you.

And just because the page looks different and can be searched more easily doesn’t mean we’ve left anything out – you’ll still get all the webinar info at a glance, including the title, date, time, speaker and CPE value (if applicable). Once you’ve found one that meets your criteria, click the “Register Now” button to go to the registration site for the full event description and to RSVP.

Webinar Recordings
With much of the same look and functionality as the Upcoming Webinars page, the Webinar Recordings page is now more user-friendly. When looking for a specific recording, filter by category to expedite your search, get speaker information and the recording date and click the “Watch Recording Now” dropdown to watch on-demand, as well as access any handouts.

Podcast Page
Like to listen to or watch our Financial Minds: Meet the Experts podcast? Now you can more easily! Each episode is displayed with the episode season/number, title and special guest. The audio version of the episode is then displayed below for one-click, easy access.

If you click on the “Listen Now” button, a dropdown will appear with links to other places where you can stream the podcast, including Apple Podcast, Spotify and YouTube. Here you’ll also find an “Episode Resources” link to view the episode description.

We invite you to check out these refreshed pages to see how we’re making improvements to our website for a better member experience. Have fun exploring!

Security Corner: DefenseStorm Essentials

Cybersecurity is no small concern for credit unions…it’s a big deal with big impacts. And just because your credit union may be on the smaller side with fewer resources doesn’t mean that you can’t protect your information.

That’s especially true now that Vizo Financial and our partners at DefenseStorm are offering DefenseStorm Essentials, our newest cyber risk management solution. Let us tell you a little more about it:

What is DefenseStorm Essentials?
DefenseStorm Essentials is a bundled solution that delivers co-managed cyber threat monitoring and regulatory compliance support, designed specifically to provide essential protections to help smaller credit unions build a robust security foundation.

It’s an ideal fit for credit unions that want to expand their ability to prevent, identify, assess and manage cyber threats; consolidate data into a single “source of truth”; improve data gathering and reporting capabilities; and reduce false positives, as well as prioritize cyber events.

Who is eligible for DefenseStorm Essentials?
Because this solution is built for smaller institutions, organizations must meet the following criteria to be eligible:

  • Assets under $200 million
  • Up to 50 employees
  • Up to five branches

What problems does the DefenseStorm Essentials solution solve for credit unions?
DefenseStorm Essentials provides the coverage, visibility and compliance readiness smaller institutions need, but may not have the resources for. Here’s how:

  • 24/7/365 Monitoring: The Cyber Threat Surveillance Operations (CTS Ops) Team continuously watches over your environment, investigates anomalies and notifies you only when action is required.
  • One Tool for Integrated Threat Detection: Security information/event management, threat intel and endpoint telemetry come together to surface actionable threats, which means you don’t need to manage multiple tools.
  • Simplified Compliance & Reporting: Every alert and action is logged, mapped to regulatory controls and audit-ready. Pre-built dashboards and reports make it easy to demonstrate and export compliance.
  • Additional Resources & Co-Managed Support: We provide the platform, the technology and the expertise to support your limited or outsourced team.
  • Scalable Coverage: Designed for smaller institutions but backed by the same infrastructure trusted by larger credit unions.

We said it once and we’ll say it again – cybersecurity is essential for credit unions of all sizes. It’s time to level the playing field with DefenseStorm Essentials!

Focus Spotlight: Upcoming Share Draft Conversion – What You Need to Know

As we recently announced, Vizo Financial and MY CU Services are preparing to convert share draft processing, returns and image archives to the TranZact platform in the second quarter of 2026.

This will impact both member and corporate share drafts. Prior to the conversion, we want to share details with you about what to expect and how to get your credit union ready for this change.

Here’s what you need to know:

Benefits of the New System

The goal of this conversion is three-fold: to gain efficiencies, to invest in a cooperatively-owned solution and to bring about process improvements for a more streamlined share draft processing experience. Here are some benefits of moving to the TranZact platform:

  • All check processing functions and image archives will be located in one place.
  • You can enter adjustment requests with supporting documentation directly into the portal.
  • There will be expanded service hours, including a 5:00 p.m. CT cutoff time for entering returns.

For certain credit unions, additional benefits include:

  • A single settlement entry at the end of the day, rather than multiple settlement files.
  • Settlement through the institution's Vizo Financial account, rather than the Fed account.
  • Eliminated requirement to enter totals at the end of each day.

Communications

In order to stay informed throughout the conversion process, we will be sending periodic communications to impacted credit unions. These communications will contain important information, including:

  • Changes to current processes
  • Actions you will need to take
  • Resources such as guides, recordings, etc. to help you navigate these changes
  • And more

Change to Mod Check Routine

A big change to the current share draft process will be the elimination of mod check routines. Instead of using these routines to identify incorrectly captured account numbers, new software will be employed to read the account number on the check image and compare that to the account number sent in the file's data record. If these do not match, the item will be sent to a review queue, and the account number will be updated as it appears on the check image before it is included in the posting file.

If the image is not clear, the account number will be keyed with a placeholder number, just as it is today when an item fails the mod check routine. These items will then reject when share draft posting takes place. With this new process in place, you should expect to see fewer exceptions to handle on your end after posting.

No action is required on your part to take advantage of this new process. It will be automatically implemented with the conversion to the TranZact platform.

Update Paperwork

We will be requesting updates to various paperwork, including documents to verify your authorized signers for the Corporate and the Fed, service contracts, etc. We will notify you of which documents will need to be updated through the course of our communications, and we will do our best to assist you through this process.

You’ll hear from a peer credit union who has leveraged the Corelation data extraction, purpose built for Vertice AI, to transform their core data into insights that have helped them better know, grow and measure their membership in weeks. Additionally, you’ll hear how your relationship with Vizo Financial gains you access to exclusive pricing and terms for adopting the Vertice AI Solution.
